Finding affordable maternity clothes is a big issue for most expectant mothers. Especially in today's economic times.

Although having a baby is a wonderful experience it can get pretty expensive. Not only do we have the challenge of finding clothes for the new arrival, but we also need to get outfits for ourselves while we are pregnant.

And this is a real challenge for many moms who don’t want to spend more than they can afford. Fortunately, affordable maternity clothes may not be as difficult to come by as you might think.

If you're planning your pregnancy in advance, why not purchase your pregnancy outfits off season? You can find really affordable maternity clothes when you buy them at the end of a particular time of year. For example, if you are planning a winter pregnancy, then you could stock up on outfits in the spring and summer months.

While buying off season is great for many moms-to-be it can sometimes be a bit of a gamble. First of all, the affordable maternity clothes will end up being a total waste of money if you can’t actually put them to use.

Even the most carefully planned pregnancies offer some surprises like more weight gain than expected or not getting pregnant in the months that you anticipated. Either of these could throw off your plans.

Outlet malls may be a more attractive option for moms trying to find affordable maternity clothes that they can wear right away. I've found a handful of great items in outlet malls but none of the deals were really outstanding.

I paid about 10 to 25 percent less than retail which is quite nice but I am a little bit greedy when it comes to saving money - especially when it's for pregnancy clothes that I’m only going to wear for a few months.

Considering that these outfits won't be getting much wear you may want to opt for a consignment shop for your affordable maternity clothes.

There are a few drawbacks that I have found in these types of stores. The first problem is finding an outfit that I like that actually fit me properly. Sure, I found lots of nice pregnancy clothing but the selection was pretty limited.

Since I had my heart set on saving a bundle on my pregnancy gear I decided that I might as well shop online for some great deals. I found second hand outfits on sites like Ebay and Craigslist. I also found some fantastic new outfits that were really quite reasonable. When it comes to affordable maternity clothes - to me the Internet is the ideal place to start shopping.
